Chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy will make a presentation on the initiatives taken by the state government for the development of infrastructure at Suminfra-2004, a two-day seminar to be organised by the CII at Bangalore on September 2-3.

Disclosing this at a press conference, J P Nayak, chairman of Suminfra-2004 and president (operations) of Larsen & Toubro Limited, said: "There would be two special sessions for the initiatives taken by the Andhra Pradesh government at the summit with respect to the development of infrastructure where top bureaucrats from the state are expected to make presentations."

According to him, the main theme of the summit would be the sustainable private-public partnerships (PPPs) in integrated infrastructure development in south India. "The forum will also help share some of the best practices and experiences of PPPs in infrastructure development," Nayak said.

The conference will focus on a range of issues like like urban planning processes, traffic management, public transport, water supply, sanitation and sewerage, and solid waste management.

"The forum will also have international speakers from the infrastructure sector and would help them showcase their competency in developing infrastructure in south India," he said.

Nayak also said that the CII had conducted a study on the sustainable infrastructure development in the southern region with focus on roads, ports, railways and telecom. Suminfra-2004, he said, would deliberate on the PPPs in relation to urban competence and real estate.

"Among the other topics that would be discussed at the forum are emerging trends and opportunities in infrastructure for private participation, experience with PPPs in infrastructure, project financing and risk management with focus on roads, ports and air connectivity," he said.

He also said that the proposed Rs 1,00,000-crore Sagarmala project would also be discussed at the summit. Apart from this corporatisation of the real estate sector in India, special economic zones (SEZs) and integrated township developments would be the other areas that would be discussed at the forum.
