Coal output to increase to 795 mt by 2016-17

The country's coal production is projected to increase by over 43 per cent to 795 million tonnes (mt) by 2016-17 financial year, from an estimated 554 mt in the current fiscal, Parliament was informed on Monday. The projection is based on obtaining necessary clearances and availability of requisite land for coal mining, minister of state for coal Pratik Prakashbapu Patil said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
