Coal Sector Trade Unions To Go On Strike From Dec 3

All national-level trade unions in the coal sector will go on strike from December 3 to 5 to press for their long-standing demands.

Negotiations with the Union coal minister, Ramvilas Paswan, have failed, the trade union leaders said.

The trade unions have been demanding the withdrawal of the Bill on privatisation of the coal mining sector, full payment of their arrears before December 2001, and restructuring of Coal India as a unitary company.

They have been forced to resort to strike because the Union coal minister refused to even consider their demands, the leaders said.

At present, around six lakh people are employed in the country
