Cochin International airport registered an increase of 1,355 tonnes in cargo during the April-December period of the current financial year. The cumulative cargo movement (both export and import) rose to 34,305 tonnes as against 32,950 in the same period last year. The airport handled 28,670 tonne international cargo during the period as against 27,500 tonnes. Of this, exports stood at 21,275 tonnes while inward cargo was 7,395 tones, airport sources said.
The airport also handled 5,450 tonnes domestic cargo —higher by 195 tonnes in the same period of last financial year. A major chunk of the overseas export was to the Gulf region. Vegetables and fruits were the major items exported to the Gulf countries.
