Coffee Board Brews Big Hopes On Ap

Coffee production in Andhra Pradesh will touch 10,000-tonne mark by the end of 2007, S Mushtaq, the deputy director of Coffee Board, said here.

Currently, coffee production in the state is around 3,000 tonnes. Andhra Pradesh Forest Development Corporation (APFDC) alone produces nearly 1600 tonnes.

Towards achieving the production target of 10,000 tonne for AP, the centre is spending Rs 144 crore on a scheme during the tenth plan period in Andhra pradesh.

Under the scheme, 60,000 acres of additional land will come under coffee cultivation, Mushtaq added.

Coffee Board prefers organic coffee which has high export potential. It is providing technical know-how and other inputs to the coffee- growers under this scheme, he stated.
