Coffee export awards mirror each other

Coffee Exports Award for 2002-03 and 2003-04 which were presented on Tuesday by commerce secretary S N Menon threw no surprises. In fact they mirrored each other.
 
The eight categories "" three based on variety and five on region "" have the same winners. Allana Sons, Mumbai dominated the awards, winning four of the eight wards.
 
Allana Sons bagged the Green Coffee and Speciality Coffee award, by virtue of being the top exporters, in the variety segment. It also bagged the largest exporter award by sending in record shipments to Middle East and European Union.
 
The rest, Instant Coffee and Russian Federation & CIS awards went to Nestle India, USA award to Madhu Jayanti International, and Bangalore and Far East to Ramesh Exports, Bangalore.
 
Allana Sons accounted for 14 per cent of the green coffee exported and 31 per cent of speciality coffee exported. Also it exported 20 per cent and 12.8 per cent of Indian coffee consignments to West Asia and EU.
 
Nestle India sent 63 per cent of India's instant coffee and 61 per cent of Indian shipments to Russia and CIS. Madhu Jayanti had a 32 per cent share in exports to US, while Ramesh Exports accounted for 17.9 per cent of Indian shipments to Far East.
