Hinting at the recovery of the economy from the impact of the economic slowdown, the collections of commercial taxes in Orissa surged by 18.73 percent in November 2009 compared to the same month in the previous fiscal. The collections in the November increased by 18.73 percent to Rs 481.97crore compared to 13.96 percent growth achieved in October this year.
The progressive collections of commercial taxes up till November increased by 6.53 per cent which is higher than 4.78 per cent achieved by October 2009. The commercial taxes department could garner Rs 3450.63 crore as taxes compared to Rs 3239.18 crore during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, sources said.
