To improve the processing industry's image and to reduce the number of industrial mishaps, the South Gujarat Textile Processors Association (SGTPA) has decided to constitute a technical committee.

"There used be quite a few industrial mishaps, mainly drum washer explosions, until a few years back. The processing industry took various steps, such as employing only qualified personnel at drum washers, buying standard quality machinery, and others, to curb the mishaps. The moves have proved effective, as the number of mishaps have decreased considerably," the association president, Ramesh Gajjar, told Business Standard.

"However, our aim is to make the processing industry a 'zero mishap' industry. For this, we have decided to form a technical committee in the very near future. The committee would comprise machinery manufacturers, technical experts, and processors, and make various recommendations regarding changes in machinery designs, technical specifications, operational changes, and others," he informed.

"Once the committee submits its recommendations, we would ensure that these are followed by one and all. This would help develop a better image," he added.
