In its economic roadmap for the state, the Madhya Pradesh chapter of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has raised the issues of lack of accountability and transparency in the bureaucracy.

Saying that the bureaucracy lacks a positive attitude, the chamber has pointed out that there is less interaction between the government and Industry and no regular review of project implementation.

It has criticised the government for not having a performance measurement system to bring about a competitive environment.

The chamber also pointed out non-availability of requisite infrastructure like air connectivity, air cargo, rail links, roads and power.

Raising concerns over the law and order in the state, the CII said, "Local anti-social elements are getting political patronage."

The industry body identified thrust areas like power, roads and airports and said there was a need for a comprehensive economic policy, sectoral policies, fiscal management and mechanism for continuous tracking.

"The value added tax system needs awareness and consensus," said the chamber.

The CII also floated the concept of a growth task force on a two-tier basis under the chairmanship of a Cabinet minister designated by the chief minister. The task force, the it said, would assist in improving competitiveness among local industries.
