A complaint has been filed against Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Amar Singh for allegedly making objectionable comments at an election rally in Tanda area near here in support of party candidate Jaya Prada, police said today.
Singh allegedly said that actress-turned politician Jaya "will commit suicide if she loses the election" at the rally on Sunday about 30 kms from here, police said quoting the complaint.
"We have asked for the CD of the speech. We will examine its contents. Only after verifying the allegations, an FIR will be lodged," Senior Superintendent of Police, Rampur, Jyoti Narayan said.
"It is an offence to instigate someone to commit suicide," he added.
With party colleague Azam Khan raising a banner of revolt against her, Jaya, who is seeking re-election from Rampur, is facing a tough battle in the constituency this time.
Accusing Azam of circulating material to sully her image, Jaya had yesterday said she would complain to the Election Commission about it.
