Women members in the Rajya Sabha today expressed concern about uncertainty over the fate of a bill providing for 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

While the matter was raised during Zero Hour by Najma Heptulla (BJP), other women members including those from Congress supported the demand for bringing the Womens' Reservation Bill.

"We want the Womens' Reservation Bill to be brought," Heptulla demanded, seeking support from her male colleagues, several of whom backed the issue.

Heptulla said the UPA government had promised to bring the Bill in 100 days and there is no sign of the same as yet.

Prabha Thakur and Sushila Tiriya of Congress and Vasanthi Stanley (DMK) supported Heptulla.

Towards the end of its previous tenure, UPA government had introduced the Bill in the Rajya Sabha.

However, there is no political consensus on it with major opposition coming from Samajwadi Party and RJD.
