Political outfits today hailed the granting of visa by China to an Arunachal MP to visit the neighbouring country, a privilege so long denied to top politicians from the north-eastern state.
BJP Lok Sabha member from Tawang Kiren Rijiju last month toured the communist nation after Beijing allowed his request for visa.
Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi in a message congratulated Rijiju on his visit to China.
Rijiju had said on Sunday after returning that he was surprised when he was granted a visa by China to visit the communist country for one month, a privilege always denied to diplomatic passport holders, including chief ministers, ministers and parliament members in the past as Beijing claimed the state as its territory.
Rijiju went to watch the Olympics as part of a delegation including four other MPs and officials on August 15.
Though the official delegation returned after the Olympics, Rijiju visited Shanghai and Xian.
In a letter to Rijiju former external affairs minister Jaswant Singh also expressed happiness at China granting him a visa.
