The Congress today defended the Centre’s stand on the S-band spectrum deal between Isro’s commercial arm Antrix and Devas Multimedia and questioned the pricing pattern of spectrums.

Calling it “absolute bizarre” to evaluate S-band spectrum on the basis of the recent 3G spectrum prices, Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari argued that “every other spectrum allocation would look like a scam” if 3G was seen as the benchmark.

“The spectrum used for meteorological offices, radios and security purposes are valued at a much lower rate. If everything was seen in the light of 3G, then how would these services run?” As the BJP-led opposition has turned on the heat, the ruling party argued that there has not been any spectrum allocation and even the corresponding satellite has not been launched.
