Following a moderate success in the Uttar Pradesh by-elections earlier this week, the Congress is getting aggressive about highlighting issues it feels will sway public opinion.

With sugarcane farmers in UP on the warpath against the state advised price (SAP) for their produce, the Centre has said sugar mills in the state will have to pay more than the announced rate of Rs 160-170 a quintal to the farmers. The assurance was given to a Congress delegation by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar here last night.
