Congress maintained lead in five of the 14 constituencies in Assam while Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF) sprang a surprise by making inroads in three LS seats.

Union Heavy Industry Minister Santosh Mohan Dev was running a poor third behind Rabin Purkayastha (BJP) and Badaruddin Ajmal (AUDF) in Silchar.

Another union minister of Chemicals and Fertilizer B K Handique was, however, ahead of his AGP rival in Jorhat. AUDF President Baduruddin Ajmal was way ahead of his Congress rival in the Dhubri seat while he was trailing behind Kabindra Purkayastha (BJP) in the Silchar constituency.

AUDF's nominees Rajesh Malla and Abdus Samad had established early leads in the Karimganj and Barpeta LS seats respectively by the end of the second round of counting.

Controversial sitting MP Mani Kumar Subba was ahead in Tezpur and so was party nominee Rani Narah for the Lakhimpur seat.

Dip Gogoi, brother of chief minister Tarun Gogoi and Biren Singh Ingti, both of Congress were ahead in Koliabor and Autonomous District (SC) seats respectively. BJP's sitting MP Rajen Gohain was ahead of his Congress rival in Nagaon while former MP and AGP-BJP combined candidate Bijoya Chakravarty was trailing Capt Robin Bordoloi of Congress in the prestigious Guwahati seat.
