With Congress appearing to fall short of the majority mark in Haryana assembly polls, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) today said the ruling party should accept defeat on "moral grounds" and not form government.

"On moral grounds, Congress should accept defeat. It has not got clear majority and should not form government on the basis of morality," INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala said as the results trickled in.

"Despite all kinds of excesses committed by Congress, opposition has got 51 seats (out of 90)," he claimed.

The INLD chief spoke as Congress bagged 17 seats and was leading at 24 others in the 90-member Assembly.
