Celebrating victory of its party candidate from New Delhi constituency, Congress workers cheered for Union minister Ajay Maken and took out a procession in front of the CPI(M) headquarters in Gole Market here.
As CPI(M) workers looked on with disappointment, the Congress workers, playing drums and cheering their candidate, celebrated Maken's victory with much fanfare for almost an hour, apparently adding insult to injury of the badly-bruised Left, which has been virtually left out after the election results.
Though a Congress functionary said supporters have celebrated the party's victory at the same spot in the past due to its proximity with the counting office, the exuberance this time seems to be more than symbolic, with the trends indicating that the UPA might be able to form a government without the Left's support.
