Congress candidate from the Ahmedabad parliamentary constituency Raj Kumar Gupta exuded confidence that the party will win at least 20 out of the 26 Lok Sabha seats in the state in the coming polls.

Gupta, who is pitted against BJP's Harin Pathak, said Congress will wrest the Ahmedabad seat from BJP this time. In the last Lok Sabha election, Pathak had won the Ahmedabad parliamentary seat with a margin of 52,968 votes, defeating Congress candidate Girish Dani. Dani had last week left Congress to join BJP.

"Congress had failed to field a strong candidate in the Ahmedabad constituency against BJP in the previous Lok Sabha polls. This resulted in Pathak's win," said Gupta. Congress will bank on the votes of Muslims, who were victmised during the communal riots two years ago, Gupta said.

"This time we will definitely win from the Ahmedabad constituency as people have realised that BJP's agenda is to create communal divide. The people cannot forget what happened two years ago," said Gupta.

Gupta said, "Pathak has miserably failed in giving the dues of the workers of the 115 closed textile mill workers in Ahmedabad. He could do nothing to generate employment opportunities for the youths of the city. He had promised jobs for the youth during the last Lok Sabha elections. The common man is not satisfied with the BJP government."
