Taking a new angle to attack the BJP government in Karnataka of a total failure in law and order situation, Congress MP A H Viswanath today demanded immediate change of Home Minister V S Acharya.
Citing several crime and other occurrences across the state, he also charged that the government was being run by the Rashtreeya Swamayaksevak Sangh (RSS) incognito.
“There is a total failure in law and order situation in the state. murders, thefts, robberies, chain-snatching and other crimes are increasing as never before. Police officers have become callous and insensitive. They refuse to register cases and await orders from the BJP leaders. As a result, people have lost confidence in the police department,” he charged.
He cited examples of the brutal murder of two college-going students of Hunsur after abduction, daylight robberies of cash and gold in Maddur of Rs 37 lakh, Chitradurga of Rs 14 lakh, Rs 10 lakh near Mysore and another incident of Rs 4 lakh robbery and elsewhere.
Referring to the murder of two students studying MBA in a local college, Viswanath, who was addressing a press conference, ridiculed setting up of five teams to investigate into the murder now and charged the district police are to be squarely blamed for failing to act on time.
“The police officers were totally callous. They even refused to register a complaint citing jurisdiction problem. The Hunsur MLA had to run around for over half a day pleading with them to register a case. They took the case only after receiving directions from BJP leader G T Deve Gowda,” the MP charged.
If the police had initiated thorough search then alone, the lives of the boys would have been saved, Viswanath said holding them directly responsible for the incident. He demanded immediate suspension of the Hunsur Deputy Superintendent of Police and a through probe into the entire episode.

In the name of GIM, the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) was acquiring 8,900 acres out of targeted 10,000 acres in Mysore district. “This is nothing but a big conspiracy to benefit real estate mafia,” he alleged.
“This Government is not run by Yeddyurappa. It is controlled by RSS and land mafia,” the Lok Sabha member charged, criticising the transfer of Harsh Gupta from Mysore district because of their pressures. As Deputy Commissioner, he had initiated strict demolition drive against illegal temples and buildings on Government lands, Viswanath said, urging new DC P S Vastrad to continue the measures initiated by his predecessor.
