Congress promises development for Assam

With Congress all set to form the next government, ‘development, stability and peace’ mantra of the outgoing government is expected to find continuity.  

The party promises to maintain peace and normalcy in the state, in addition to continuing the economic growth story in the coming days.  

The new government is expected to set up Assam Investment Development Corporation to boost infrastructural activities soon after assuming office.  

The new government is also expected soon to initiate steps to provincialise the rural venture schools established prior to 2006 and which have received monthly grants-in-aid on the basis of the recommendations of the Special Core Group of the council of ministers.

 

The new government will also enhance the monthly grants-in-aid for venture schools, and teachers of such schools will be given fixed pay till provincialisation in a phased manner.  

The new congress government is also expected to implement a special package of Rs 1,000 crore in next five years for all-round development of the Barak Valley districts.  

The new government is also expected to set up a high-level knowledge commission and state education commission will be set up. 

On the power front, the new government is expected to construct a 500 MW hydel power project at Lekhapani in upper Assam.

The government is also expected to take up the modernisation and capacity increase of the Namrup thermal power project.

The new government will also focus on setting up of medical colleges in the state through public private parnership mode.
