Even as the Samajwadi Party is awaiting signals from the Congress for a per-poll arrangement for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Congress today pushed the gear in its poll preparations in Uttar Pradesh. Congress President Sonia Gandhi has approved a 34 member state election committee for Uttar Pradesh. Headed by the state party President Rita Bahuguna Joshi it will also have Rahul Gandhi as a member.
As the elections are drawing near, the Congress, which doesn’t hold much ground in the state, is trying to put its different factions together for an united show of strength. Digvijay Singh, Congress general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, has constituted the committee taking almost all the important state leaders.
The committee includes Sriprakash Jaiswal, Jagdambika Pal and even Salman Khursheed who was removed from the post of the state unit head after the debacle in the last assembly elections. Leaders like Mohsina Kidwai, Begum Noor Banu, Rajiv Shukla, Sanjay Singh, Rajesh Misra and Jitin Prasad along with Rahul Gandhi also figure in the list.
