Congress retained the Bidar assemly constituency in Karnataka bye-elections when its candidate Rahim Khan defeated Suryakant Nagamarpally of BJP by a margin of more than 10,000 votes.

The bye-election was caused following Gurupadappa Nagamarpally resigning his assembly seat to defect to BJP on whose party ticket Nagamarapally's son had contested the Bidar byelection.
