Kerala is all set to be the first state in India to offer connected toilet infrastructure facility to the public.

This latest technological innovation, which is a convergence of web-mobile-electronics technologies, makes possible mapping and connecting all the e-toilet units via web and mobile.

The Kerala Connected Toilet Infrastructure is designed on a par with the Australian National Public Toilet Map. Besides Australia, this concept has been implemented in Korea and a few other developed nations. A traveler can view the toilet map via web or mobile, can select the nearest toilet station, set a parking space, make payment, view the timings, see the kids’ facilities available and get a host of other details.

Kerala has already installed more than 150 e-toilets across various locations and another 300 will be operational by this financial year.

The installations were made possible through a variety of funding sources such as MP/MLA Local Area Development Funds, local self governments, corporate social responsibility funds, Lions Clubs and NGOs and trade organisations.

This online integration will also provide details on the coins collected and the water and power usage of the unit.
