The Budget for 2010-11 should be commended for giving priority to the agriculture sector. Agriculture is the backbone of our economy. We welcome the announcement of loans worth Rs 3.57 lakh crore to farmers and extending the deadline of loan repayment by six months. The Budget has also strengthened the functioning of rural banks.

The Centre has given attention to sectors like health, education, rural development as well as minorities and women.

The Budget has also brought some relief to the middle classes by not increasing income tax. Employment and self-employment will be encouraged, as the Centre has hiked funds of the Swarna Jayanti Rozgar Scheme by 75 per cent.
