Buffeted by court orders and the increasing criticism from partymen in Patna, a visibly cornered Bihar Chief Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav yesterday said he had cancelled the Janata Dal national convention scheduled by him in Patna from June 10.
Yadav wanted to hold the election to the post of party president during the convention which, in any case, has been struck down by the Delhi high court. On Saturday, the court rescheduled the election from June 10 to June 18. The court also stayed Yadav's decision to convene a meeting of the party's national executive here today.
The court orders are seen within the Janata Dal as a major victory for Yadav's rival in the election, Sharad Yadav. Not only has the court put strong curbs on the Bihar Chief Minister, the election will now be held
