The corporate affairs ministry has asked the Registrar of Companies (RoC) to scrutinise the online registration records of all firms that own Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises. The ministry’s move comes at a time when franchises such as GMR Sports, which owns the Delhi Daredevils team, IndiaWin Sports Private Ltd, the majority stakeholder of Mumbai Indians, and Deccan Chronicle Holdings Ltd (owners of Deccan Chargers) have disclosed their shareholding details.
Corporate Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said his officials were browsing through the data already available with them to see if there had been any violation under the Companies Act.
“Agencies under the finance ministry have initiated an inquiry (into IPL issues). They might want to refer something to us (corporate affairs ministry) and we want to be prepared,” said Khurshid.
