Corporate jobs await low-rung govt officials in Haryana

Those who retire from the revenue department of Haryana have an option to play a second inning.

The corporate sector in Haryana has rolled out a red carpet for the officials retired as Patwaris and Tehsildars from the revenue department of the state to hire them as consultants.

Most of the private players like Reliance Industries Ltd, DLF, DS Constructions, Unitech have picked up the veterans as they have detailed information about the land records.

The state has already got in-principle approval for 57 SEZs (special economic zones). All are greenfield ventures and acquisition of land in hinterland is a tedious task.

These retired officials, besides having an insight into the structure of land holdings, can convince the local people in their language which an MBA from a management institute cannot do.

They are also familiar with the technical terms used in land revenue records like shajra (plan), khasra (number), biswa and pat (used for measurement of land) that new generation management graduates do not know.

The officials of DLF and DS constructions confirmed the constructive role of the former officials in acquisition and supervision of landholdings. The networking of former patwaris helps to break the ice between the farmers and the corporates.

"It is a windfall gain for the retired persons who get a respectable remuneration, at times more than their last salary drawn after a service of three to four decades, and corporates capitalise the experience of these officials to complete the difficult task of acquiring thousands of hectares of land," said a company official.
