The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has started getting financial details from companies that have invested in the firms set up by MP and president of YSR Congress party Jagan Mohan Reddy. The Andhra Pradesh High Court had last week directed the CBI to conduct preliminary inquiry into the corruption allegations levelled against Jagan.

The court asked the investigative agency to complete the inquiry within two weeks to know if there is a prima facie evidence in the allegations that those who made investments into Jagan's companies had done so in return of the favours they received by the state government when his father was the chief minister. The court would decide its further course in this case based on the report.

So far, the CBI had issued notices to 19 companies, including Jagati Publications, Bharati Cement and Sandoor Power Limited in, which the rest of them had made investments. About 8 companies had submitted the details apart from responding to questions asked by the CBI.

“So far, the CBI appears to have confined the exercise to the investors of Jagan’s companies. They had not approached the officials of government departments, nor asked for any files as yet,” a senior official in the industries department said on Tuesday.

However, the CBI had taken a number of documents pertaining to the Emaar township and golf course project case, in which the court had ordered a similar inquiry, from the offices of the state-owned Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC), according to the officials.

Meanwhile, Jagan filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court today against the CBI inquiry. He wanted the apex court to stop the ongoing inquiry till it completes the hearing on his petition.
