Counting of votes today

The counting for 21 parliamentary constituency and 147 assembly constituency in the state which went into polls in two phases will be held tomorrow. The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements including security for the counting of votes.

Addressing the media, Alka Panda, chief electoral officer (CEO) for Orissa said, the counting will be held in 60 locations and 159 halls.

There will be 7 tables each for assembly and parliamentary segments in the halls. No minister or deputy minister will be allowed to be appointed as counting agents and one observer will be appointed for each hall.

There will be 3-tier security during the counting and the returning officers have been instructed to ensure that agents don't shift their tables from the assembly segment to parliamentary segment in the hall. Mobile phones will not be allowed inside the counting halls and no staff deployed for counting of votes will be allowed to leave the centre till counting is completed. The counting will start at 8 am in the morning and the first results are expected around 3 pm, she added.
