Court restrains govt panels for cooperative banks

The Orissa High Court on Tuesday restrained the government nominated managing committee of Rourkela Urban Cooperative Bank and ordered the reinstatement of the earlier elected body in it its place to run the affairs of the bank.

Expressing displeasure over the government move the court wanted to know how the government formed such committees for different cooperative banks within a short span of promulgation of Orissa Cooperative Societies (amendment) Act, 201. The court directed the Registrar, Cooperative Societies to file his affidavit on the matter by tomorrow.

With this, the court has restrained the government nominated boards of eleven co-operative banks in the state. The others are Orissa State Cooperative Bank, Puri Urban Cooperative bank, Nuapada RCMS, Alaka Central Cooperative Store and six central cooperative banks such as Cuttack Central Cooperative Bank, Aska Central Cooperative Bank, Nayagarh Central Cooperative Bank, Bhadrak – Balasore Central Cooperative Bank, Banki Central Cooperative Bank and Bhawanipatna Central Cooperative Bank.
