In fresh trouble for former Union Minister Jagdish Tytler, a Delhi Court today directed CBI to reinvestigate his alleged involvement in anti-Sikh riots in 1984 after a witness surfaced in the US offering to assist the probe agency that had sought closure of the case. |
"Since this witness (Jasbir Singh) has allegedly seen the incident and had given the affidavit before Justice Nanavati Commission and is willing to depose before CBI/join investigation, I am of the opinion that the matter needs to be further investigated," Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjiv Jain said. |
The court, which directed the CBI to place its report on January 16, did not, however, express any opinion about the manner in which Singh, currently settled in California, would record his statement before it. |
The order assumes significance as the CBI had filed a report seeking to close the case saying that Singh was untraceable and there was no other evidence to prove allegations against Tytler. |
However, the Congress leader expressed doubt over the veracity of the affidavit of Singh, who had claimed that he heard the minister allegedly inciting a mob. |
