"After witnessing protest against Posco's proposed project, Orissa government should reconsider the MoU signed with the South Korean company and cancel it, CPI general secretary A B Bardhan told reporters here.

Stating that CPI was in favour of industries, he said the party did not want big projects that would take away fertile land from peasants and homestead from villagers.

Multinational companies must be prevented from looting the country's rich mineral and natural resources, Bardhan said adding no captive port should be allowed as it would diminish the importance of Paradip port.

CPI was also opposed to the manner in which the central government was backing the proposed project of Posco with regard to environmental and mining aspects, he said.

Bardhan said his party has conveyed its opposition to the project to the UPA government at the Centre.
