The CPI today condemned the BJP for demanding an apology from actor Aamir Khan for his alleged disparaging remarks against the party and said, "This reveals the brand of fascist intolerance which bodes ill for democracy".

"The BJP is notorious for making disparaging remarks against other parties at the slightest provocation", the central secretariat of the party said in a statement.

Referring to BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar's comments that Khan was a film star but he was speaking like a politician, the CPI said, "Everybody knows how the BJP drags scores of actors to its political platf-orm during election. Presumably, these actors know everything".
