While its central committee is busy drafting the political resolution with special focus on minority development, the CPI(M) today came down heavily on the BJP on the issue of welfare of minorities.

The communists have dubbed the BJP's opposition to the 11th five year plan as "efforts to communally polarise society".

This strategy of CPI(M) to pose itself as a champion of the cause of the minorites comes in a crucial time for the party.

In West Bengal, the party's strongest power-centre, the CPI(M)-led Left Front has come under severe pressure from its political opponents the issue of minorities.
