CPM supporters and members of the Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee (BUPC) were involved in a fresh clash here, a senior police official said today.

The two sides clashed last night near the Khejuri area but nobody was injured, Superintendent of Police G A Srinivas said. The reason behind the clash was not clear. Police reinforcements have been rushed to the area as a precautionary measure, the SP added.

Nandigram has been in the news since January over intermittent clashes between CPM supporters and BUPC members over the government's proposal to acquire land for setting up a chemical hub.

Police action on March 14 had led to the death of 14 people, and several areas in Nandigram are still inaccessible with BUPC members keeping a check on all entry and exit points to the disputed area.

Although the government has announced that it will not acquire land in Nandigram or set up the chemical hub there, tension is yet to subside in the area.
