Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy on Tuesday asked Gangavaram Port Limited to issue appointment orders to 300 people from Dibbapalem village by July 1.

Expressing his displeasure over GPL, which has developed the Gangavaram port in Visakhapatnam, not providing employment to the project-hit, Reddy said providing jobs to the people of the displaced villages was part of the company’s commitment.

“What about the employment promised to the people of these villages?” the chief minister questioned the port authorities after reviewing the relief and rehabilitation of the Gangavaram port here.

He asked Visakhapatnam collector J Shyamal Rao to follow up on the job promises by the port authorities.

The chief minister also directed that 300 people from the Gangavaram village, which has been affected by the project, too should be given appointment orders by August 1 after the case filed at the Lok Ayukta is disposed of.

Meanwhile, the government allowed the state owned Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation to add 500 buses every year to the fleet to cope with the increasing passenger traffic.
