Centurion School of Rural Enterprise Management (CSREM) located at Parlakhemundi in Orissa’s Gajapati district plans to train about 500 members of women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) at its Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) under the Rajiv Gandhi Udyami Mitra Yojana (RGUMY).
The EDI which was set up by CSREM with support from the Union ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and the state industries department has been chosen as an empanelled lead agency under RGUMY to provide handholding support and assistance to the potential first generation entrepreneurs. Earlier, CSREM had already received a grant of Rs 1 crore from the Union ministry of MSME ministry and Rs 5 lakh from the Orissa government to impart entrepreneurial training to rural youth to enable them to become small and micro entrepreneurs.
“We are aiming to train about 500 members of women SHGs in 18 districts of Orissa by the end of 2010. This training programme would be imparted by CSREM in association with the department of women and child development of the Orissa government”, said Mukti Mishra, chairman, Centurion Group of Institutions (CGI) which runs CSREM. The department of women and child welfare of the Orissa government has released Rs 2 crore for training 500 women.
The training programme will focus on providing training to the women on all areas of entrepreneurship and the programme’s objective is to create a cadre of self-employed Shakti Sahayikas or SHG Facilitators. Under RGUMY, the Udyami Mitras or the empanelled lead agencies would be given financial assistance for rendering assistance to the potential first generation entrepreneurs.
The onus will be on the selected lead agencies to network and coordinate with government departments, regulatory agencies, banks and financial institutions, district industries centres, technology providers and infrastructure providers on behalf of the potential entrepreneurs.
