The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has launched prosecution against 28 officers, including seven each from the railway ministry and the ministry of personnel, and disposed of about 900 cases referred to it for advice.
The anti-corruption watchdog also effected recoveries to the tune of Rs 5.91 crore after conducting technical examinations of some departments.
In its performance report for October and November, the commission said the prosecution was also launched against six officers from Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC), two from Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and one each from the Department of Telecommunications, the government of NCT of Delhi, CBI, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Small Scale Industry and Ministry of Home Affairs.
CVC also advised the initiation of major penalty proceedings against 182 officers during the period. It included 48 officers from public sector banks, 40 from the railway ministry, 11 from Northern Coalfields Ltd and nine from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
Five officers — three from the Department of Personnel and Training and one each from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Bureau of Indian Standards — were punished during October on the basis of the commission’s advice.
The commission also advised the imposition of major penalty against 134 officers, including 31 from the railway ministry, 29 officers from public sector banks, 17 from the Delhi Development Authority and eight from CBEC.
The competent administrative authorities issued sanctions for the prosecution against 17 officers. These included seven from Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievance and Pensions, two each from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs and CBDT.
On the basis of advice tendered by the commission, stiff major penalty has been imposed on three officers, including one each from the Ministry of Textiles, Union Bank of India and the Delhi Development Authority.
The anti-corruption watchdog has sent 807 complaints received by it for necessary actions in October and 728 during November.
