CVC set to release report on CWG

The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), which has been going through in detail regarding various alleged irregularities in how the recent Commonwealth Games was conducted in Delhi, is expected to submit a consolidated report on its finding shortly. In addition to various aspects, one of the key highlights of the report will be that the CVC has found evasion of as much as Rs 400 crore in taxes.

Pradeep Kumar, Central Vigilance Commissioner, told reporters in Bangalore on Monday that they have working extensively during the past 12 months on this report which will consolidate its various findings and they in the process of counter-checking their finding before the report is tabled soon. “We have so far put out close to 25 reports on the CWG and the report which we will submit soon will be a consolidated one. Our Vigilance Commissioner R Sri Kumar has been working on this extensively,” Pradeep Kumar added. According to Sri Kumar, they have gone through various parameters on which the projects were tendered out and they have found various irregularities. “We have arrived at a fact that based on various studies that there has been subversion of Rs 400 crore of taxes to the exchequer. We are working closely with other tax authorities and hope this amount of tax is collected,” Sri Kumar added.

 

The anti-graft watchdog which expressed happiness over the recent 2G verdict in which 122 licenses of telecom players were cancelled said that they will work closely with CBI to probe the irregularities in this further. “It is true that this case (2G) made headlines, but that’s not for which we are working. Our mandate is much larger, which is to inculcate a culture of integrity in the society. There are many other cases which we are working on,” Pradeep Kumar added.

On the aspect whether the various anti-graft watchdogs are rushing with their reports indicting various personnel, Pradeep Kumar said that while there may be mistakes committed, one should judge how fast the remedial measures are effected, which differentiates the institution. “There are lapses and aberrations in any system and human beings cannot be totally perfect and there may have been mistakes. There can be no excuse for shabby and shoddy work.”he noted, due diligence to the best of our ability. Ultimately we are accountable and we have processes in place for swift remedial steps,” Pradeep Kumar noted.
