A record 7,000 athletes and team officials from 71 countries are expected to participate in the forthcoming Delhi Commonwealth Games, to be held between October 3 and 14.
The last edition of the Games in Melbourne saw 5,766 athletes and team officials attending the event.
The Games Village in Delhi has been built to accommodate 7,200 people. The exact number of athletes will be known only after the Delegation Registration Meeting, to be held between September 16 and October 2.
“We are confident that the Games will be conducted smoothly,” said Lalit Bhanot, secretary general, Commonwealth Games Organising Committee.
The Indian contingent for the Games comprises 600 people, the highest among all the participating countries. The smallest contingent is coming from Bostwana, with less than five athletes and officials. The late entries for the Games are still on which can further add to the list of the participants.
Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales will maintain their record of participating in all the editions of the Commonwealth Games.
