What is Delhi Metro's plan for commuters and tourists during the Commonwealth Games?

Delhi Metro for CWGIt is a completely re-designed website, whose special feature is interactivity, and a special information booklet containing all necessary details about the Games extravaganza and the city, besides providing connectivity to almost all the 11 stadias that hosts the games.

With thousands of foreign tourists expected to throng the national capital in October, the Delhi Metro will soon launch its re-designed interactive website with a special section which will have details about the Games, metro stations and other information about the transport system.

The completely revamped website, which would be hosted on the government server NIC instead of the existing private one, will serve as a single-stop shop for details regarding the Delhi Metro.

"The website will have an interactive route map, automatic fare calculator and details of tourist attractions along the Metro corridor," a Delhi Metro spokesperson told PTI.

The spokesperson said there will be a special section titled 'Commonwealth Games 2010' to provide details about the event, its association with Metro, connectivity and other information.

Though the idea to re-design the website was on the cards for a long time, DMRC decided to relaunch during the Commonwealth Games as Metro anticipates many people will use the new age transport systems to reach the sport venues to watch the games.

To make the website attractive and give it an elegant look, Delhi Metro officials studied the sites of other leading sub-way systems in the country like Hong Kong, Singapore and London.

"We took some lessons from there. The main idea was to provide all details to commuters and tourists about the network at the click of a mouse. The website designing is at the final stages and will be launched by the end of this month," the spokesperson added.

Besides, the website will also have a ticker which will display important announcements and notices regarding Metro for the convenience of the passengers.

The spokesperson said once the website is relaunched, every department will have a nodal officer who will decide what kind of content will be placed on the website.

The Metro will also bring out a special Commonwealth Games booklet to provide all the necessary information to the commuters during the games.

"The comprehensive booklet will not only carry information about the various corridors and stations, but will also have details about the various tourist attractions of the city along with their Metro connectivity," the spokesperson said.

The booklet will have detailed information about the city's hotels, markets, railway stations, other emergency numbers etc. And it will be available at all metro stations.

The DMRC has also tied up with search engine Google to make available details about Delhi Metro which is now available on Google Transit.

By accessing Google transit, commuters can now get details about the interchange stations and the time duration between stations etc.

The Metro spokesman said some "yellow pages" website will also be roped in to ensure that commuters get all the necessary information about the new age transport system.

Besides, games specific and informative signages will be put up at all major metro stations to cater to the commuters.

Relevant Metro information will also be put shown on LED screens at major Metro stations to keep the commuters informed about the Metro services.
