Hyderabad will have separate cycling tracks in select places to promote cycling among people, mainly among officer goers, Ponnala Lakshmaiah, information technology minister, said.
Separate tracks would be built to ensure safety of bicyclists like in many western countries, and encourage bicycling culture in the city. The tracks would come up in select places including Kondapur and Madhapur area, he stated in a press release. The minister on Thursday inaugurated the ‘The Republic Ride - 2012’ at Gachibowli.
‘The Republic Ride’ is organised every year by the city-based Atlanta Foundation to mark the Republic Day celebration and create awareness on cycling and greener environment.
It saw more than 4,000 bicyclists from across 50 companies, such as Ascendas IT parks, CyberPearl, Mahindra Satyam, Invesco, BSA, ADP, Deloitte, GE and GMR.
