Crops, mostly paddy, in an extent of 76,980 hectares have been inundated in the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh as heavy rains lashed the state for the past two days under the influence of 'Nilam' cyclone, according to revenue minister, N Raghuveera Reddy.
The minister, however, said the inundated crops, to a large extent, might not have been damaged and there was all likelihood of their recovery.
Reddy, who reviewed the effect of the cyclone on the state on Friday, said district collectors were asked to estimate the damage to the crops and submit reports.
The cyclone claimed the lives of four persons - one each in East Godavari, Prakasam, Nellore and Anantapur districts. While three of them died due to electrocution, one person died in a wall collapse. A fisherman from Srikakulam district, Lokanatham, was stated to be missing and efforts were on to locate him.
Reddy said in all 30 houses were damaged, 440 electric polls were uprooted and 7 cattle died as the state witnessed widespread rains.
