Daimler AG will postpone the start of truck production in India by as long as a year and a half because of a drop in demand, Handelsblatt said, citing Marc Llistosella, head of the company’s Indian commercial vehicles unit.
The plant, originally scheduled to start operations by late 2010 in Chennai, won’t go into production until early- to mid-2012, Llistosella told the newspaper.
The executive said plunging truck demand in India in the past year accounted for the delay, Handelsblatt said.
