Dairy ind wants govt to levy tax on imported milk products

The dairy industry in Gujarat has urged the government to impose 15 per cent customs duty on imported milk powder and other milk products, in order to protect the domestic industry.     

In a memorandum submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the dairies have asked for imposition of 15 per cent custom duty on milk powder and 40 per cent on butteroil, according to a statement.     

They have also asked for limiting the value added tax on dairy products to 4 per cent to help domestic milk producers, it added .     

The industry also wants the government to levy export duty on oilmeals, de-oiled cake and cattlefeed.
