It was 'triple delight' for Delhi in ministerial berths at the Centre.
The national capital was rewarded with two more ministers – Krishna Tirath and Ajay Maken – at the Centre today after Congress made a sweep of all the seven seats in the city.
The induction of Tirath, the fresh face in the ministry from Delhi, and Maken comes five days after Kapil Sibal was sworn in as Cabinet Minister.
Tirath, the lone woman MP from the city, will be a Minister of State with independent charge while Maken remains as a Minister of State. The portfolios are not announced yet.
In the previous Manmohan Ministry, there were only two ministers from Delhi — Union Science and Technology Minister Sibal and Minister of State for Urban Development Maken. "I am very happy. I was expecting this. The ministerial responsibility will give me more opportunity to serve the people," an elated Tirath, the 54-year-old MP from North-West Delhi, told PTI.
Tirath, who was a MP from erstwhile Karol Bagh in the 14th Lok Sabha, had defeated BJP's Meera Kanwaria by a margin of over 1.88 lakh votes. She got 58 per cent of the total 8.5 lakh votes polled.
Asked whether she has any preference for any Ministry, Tirath said, "Whatever Ministry is given to me, I will accept it with great satisfaction."
