Eager to speed up work on the much-delayed 40 Mw Renuka hydro project and dam in Himachal Pradesh, the Delhi government has released the first instalment of Rs 200 crore for it.

According to an agreement between the two states, 23 cumecs of water from the Renuka dam in HP will be piped all the way to the water-starved Delhi before the 2010 Commonwealth games. Top state government officials said on Sunday that with the release of the money, land acquisition work will begin within a fortnight.
