Deloitte, one of the world's leading advisory professional services organisations, has conceptualised 'n-Vision' "" a programme aimed at offering solutions to non-governmental and non-profit organisations in India on issues ranging from strategy, marketing, operations and human resources (HR), finance and core business areas.

"Civil society organisations are driven by hearts. The philosophy of 'n-Vision' is to add mind by using Deloitte's intellectual capital to impact our communities. The attempt is to enhance the visibility of the NGOs and streamline activities to increase efficiency and effectiveness, from developing a public relation plan to advising them on their real estate portfolio," says Kumar Kolin, managing director for Deloitte US Firms' operations in India.

Born of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) consciousness of the 5,000 Deloittes working in Hyderabad last year during the Impact Day, a celebration of the company's year-long commitment to volunteerism, n-Vision would be implemented in Hyderabad this year, which would touch 4,320 lives.

"Around 120 skill-based and outcome-focused volunteers from Deloitte would work with 25 NGOs and interact with them to understand their issues. They would provide the NGOs financial templates and solutions related to HR policies, besides basic cash flow and accounting consultancy. If the NGOs want their websites up, Deloitte's technology group will pitch in to provide support, besides creating a portal for them," Kolin says.

Deloitte's CSR Group would pilot the 'n-Vision' programme in Hyderabad and iron out wrinkles before launching it in Mumbai next year, he adds.

Last year, 31,000 Deloitte US volunteers worked on more than 600 projects worldwide. This year, over 6,200 of the company's professionals in Hyderabad and Mumbai would spend over 45,000 execution hours working on 36 different threads spread across women, education, health, safety, environment and social awareness among others on their fifth Impact Day on June 6, 2008.

The CSR is no more a choice as our clients want it too. There would be some mission-critical projects that have to be executed on the Impact Day, for which we make alternative arrangements. The Deloitte population in Hyderabad would touch 8,000 in the next two years, and our idea is to involve at least 10 per cent of this in one CSR activity or the other throughout the year," Kolin says.
