After the Union ministry for human resource development cracked the whip on the deemed universities for flouting the UGC guidelines, the demand for grant of the private university status is gaining momentum in Orissa.
With the ministry unlikely to grant the deemed university status on any new institution in the wake of the row surrounding 44 such universities facing de-recognition, the institutes in the state are now vying for the private university status.
