The issue of demonetisation stormed the proceedings in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly as the House could not transact any business on the first day of winter session that was today.
Soon after the House assembled for a five-day winter session Tuesday morning, senior Congress legislator and state Congress President Bhupesh Baghel demanded admission of the adjournment motion moved to discuss the impact of demonetization. The motion was dismissed that propelled opposition members to create chaos in the House.
Baghel said a farmer identified as Ravi Pradhan committed suicide in the state after failing to get cash despite three days of exercise in the bank. He said since the issue was related to the state, the House should have discussed the issue. The Congress members created pandemonium and did not allow even Question Hour proceeding.
Amidst chaos, Chief Minister Raman Singh tabled a resolution stating that Chhattisgarh would effectively implement the decision of the Centre regarding demonetization. The opposition, however, did not allow the discussion on the resolution and continued to disrupt the proceedings.
Speaker Gourishankar Agrawal adjourned the House for Wednesday. The House was adjourned for five times in the day but the opposition members continued with their protest.
The discussion on the resolution moved by the Chief Minister would be taken up in the House on Wednesday in which the opposition members would participate and keep their points on the issue.
